About Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

Our History

Jim Lunceford began his career in the oil business in the 1940s and eventually opened his own auto service station called Jim & Jim’s in Homewood, Alabama. From the start, Jim was determined to find an innovative way to make it fast, easy and convenient for drivers to service their cars.


When Jim heard of a company in California that offered quick oil changes, and then actually saw a fast lube in Memphis, he knew this was the future of car care. He also knew he could do it better than anyone else.


And, well, he did. Since opening his first Express Oil Change & Service Center location in the Birmingham, Alabama area in 1979, the company has grown into a national leader in automotive service with 396 locations across the country. But perhaps even more important than the number of locations is the fact our brand is now synonymous with convenient, high-quality automotive service. Eventually, to reflect it becoming a leader in the tire industry as well, the company became Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers.


Though most of the fine folks working at Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers today weren’t around when Jim opened the doors of his first fast-track bays, one thing has never changed: We continue to provide truly outstanding automotive service at warp speed and at sensible, customer-friendly prices.
